Really fun fundraiser
Working for Scale, an a cappella group I helped launch, had its first big “outing” last year at a fundraiser for a long-standing, local community theater. We have been invited back this year for a repeat performance, and will be opening for Ball in the House again, one of the finest a cappella bands in the known universe. Last year, I was excited to share the stage with them. Now, having heard them perform live, I just have to say you’d be crazy to pass up this year’s “A Cappella in da House” fundraiser. You simply will not believe the music that five a cappella voices can produce! What makes this year’s gig all the more exciting is Working For Scale’s CD release. “The Sunroom Sessions” will be making its debut at the event. Short-run printing
More and more, the reports, newsletters, and fact sheets we produce are designed to be downloaded rather than printed. Obviously, this results in a huge savings in both printing and mailing costs, and because so many projects are on very tight schedules, final corrections can happen right up to the last minute. It is common, however, to produce a “short run” to get into the hands of funders, policymakers, key members of peer communities, and the press. Until recently, this could be quite expensive, especially because most projects are now designed in 4-color. There are several new technologies that allow for reasonable quality, with quick turn-arounds at affordable rates. Though you can get decent-looking laser copies at places like Staples and Kinkos, I recommend going to small print shops, many of which have introduced lower-cost alternatives for short runs. The staff tends to be better trained and the equipment better maintained. There are also several reputable online printers that provide short-run printing. “On-demand” printing is another alternative for larger projects for which you require a small number of copies. If you would like recommendations for online printers or for local vendors in the Greater Boston area, please give us a call. Based on the print run and the size of your project, we’ll try to steer you in the right direction.
Spreading the word
We have had a great year, thanks to you. We’ve added several clients to our roster as a result of your sending good people our way. Geographically, our clients are much more diverse. We’ve seen an increase, especially, in our West Coast connections. Teleconferencing has become an almost-daily event. Though there has been growth in many areas, frankly, we are not working at full capacity. Amanda has become quite expert at report and periodical production. So expert, in fact, that it has increased our output potential. Although we welcome any work you might send our way, we are especially interested in producing more annual reports, project reports, newsletters, fact sheets — anything that would traditionally be considered a “print” project (whether it is actually eventually printed or just provided as a PDF file for users to download and print on their own).
We often say that “making happy clients (making clients happy) is our only form of advertising.” If you are happy with our work and you have a moment, please consider mentioning us to a colleague. Or, send me a name (or names) of folks who may benefit from our services.
This may help
Should you decide to help spread the word about our work, here are a couple of tools that may help. I have created a publications flyer that contains links to many downloadable samples of DG-produced publications — from reports and magazines to newsletters and fact sheets. Just download the flyer and forward it to a colleague.
Or send folks to my website. A quick perusal of the site will show people the types of projects we work on and the client base with which we work. I especially recommend directing folks to the Testimonials pages as they provide a potential client with a real sense of the kinds of connections we build with our collaborators. Thanks. |
